The government has announced its aim of encouraging the creation of a healthier Britain, which has been welcomed by employers.

This follows the introduction of the Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives report, which suggested certain measures needed to be taken in order improve the health of employees in the UK.

People will be encouraged to eat healthier food, as well as exercise more, and financial incentives may be introduced in order to encourage people further, according to the Department of Health.

The government intends to provide £372 million for the cause.

The government report also suggests that businesses should make a healthy workplace a priority in their business model as a means of tackling UK obesity rates.

Nearly a quarter of the men and women in the UK are obese, according to the Department of Health.

Richard Neville, head of employee relations at Yorkshire Water, commenting on the new initiative, said: "There are a variety of things a company can do to address health issues at work, as long as it makes them fun," Personnel Today reports.
