Lawyers lead the way in green initiatives

Environmental action is not something that automatically springs to mind when considering the legal profession; however, it seems the results of a new survey may indicate that it should be.
Research conducted by the Managing Partners' Forum (MPF) found that people in legal jobs are ahead of any other profession when it comes to taking action to reduce their carbon footprint.
Of the 50 businesses surveyed, 43 said they had had their emissions independently assessed and 28 of these were law firms, BusinessGreen.com reports.
"The UK has a very dynamic professional services sector and a lot of big global firms grew out of the country. It has a tradition of thought leadership and we'd expect this trend to expand - professional services are realising they cannot ignore sustainability," said MPF campaign leader Nick Shephard.
According to government legislation, all new homes built in Britain are to be carbon neutral by 2016, with new commercial buildings required to meet this target by 2019.
