Marketers 'could benefit from online video increase'
Published: 29/05/2008
Brand and marketing managers should take note of the growing numbers of internet users who are accessing online videos, it has been claimed.
New research from ABI has discovered that there will be at least one billion people accessing videos via the web by 2013 - almost triple the number seen today.
The company attributed this growth to increasing broadband penetration and better connection speeds worldwide.
This news could have implications for those seeking to promote products or looking for a job within the industry, since much of the content is user-generated from sites such as YouTube and Dailymotion.
"The rapid expansion of broadband video creates opportunities across a number of market sectors," said ABI Research senior analyst Cesar Bachelet.
He added that for those pay TV operators who own broadband infrastructure, PC-based services can be an ideal complement to their core business.
In related news, a survey carried out by Online Marketing and Media Show found that marketers are no longer spending as much of their budgets on traditional banner advertising as they used to, but are instead making way for the growth in interactive media like social media and viral marketing.
