A study carried out by the Newspaper Marketing Agency has revealed that the number of visitors to newspaper websites reached 95 million in June.

The report collated the web traffic figures for the 16 titles owned by the members of the Newspaper Publishers Association, including the Daily Mail, Sunday Times and News of the World, reports the Guardian.

Some 35.5 million of these unique visitors were found to be from the UK, with online readers spending a total of 715 million minutes on such sites.

Around half of British readers were loyal to a single title, with most visitors entering the sites via Google.

Direct traffic was the second-biggest driver, accounting for 22 million visitors.

This could be important news for people in journalism jobs, as content becomes increasingly available online, while print media declines.

The NMA is an independent organisation which aims to make advertisers, agencies and media planners more aware of the power newspapers can have in advertising.
