People aiming to get journalism jobs are being given a masterclass in the field today (November 14th), it has been revealed.

With more than 25 years of experience in the field, the expert will no doubt be able to impart some valuable words of wisdom to attendees.

Commenting on the event, lecturer in journalism Clare Smith said: "This is a brilliant opportunity for Salford students to learn about the skills needed by journalists today, straight from the people out there doing the job right now."

Mr Hewlett, who was awarded an honorary degree from the institution in 2000, has held a variety of positions throughout his career, including head of factual programmes at Channel Four and managing director of Carlton Productions.

In other news, a number of high profile individuals from the journalism industry recently gathered at the Society of Editors annual conference in Bristol.
