UK employment increases

The UK employment rate has increased to 74.8 per cent, according to government statistics.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has shown today (March 19th) that the employment rate is increasing, while that of unemployment and inactivity is decreasing.
Compared to the previous quarter, the employment rate has increased by 0.3 per cent in the three months leading up to January, in which the number of people in employment amounted to 29.46 million.
Unemployment, on the other hand, fell by 0.1 per cent over the previous quarter and 0.3 per cent compared to the same time last year, with some 678,500 job vacancies available throughout the three months leading to February.
Similarly, the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance decreased by 2,800 in the lead up to February.
The annual rate of growth for average earnings remained static, however, at 3.7 per cent in January.
Meanwhile, public sector employment increased to 5.778 million, according to the ONS.
