Creative scheme launched by Darling

Chancellor Alistair Darling visited Manchester earlier this week to launch the Noise Dream Jobs 2008 project, it has been reported. The initiative aims to match young people with work placements in the creative industry, with companies such as the BBC, Hemingway Design and Channel M among those taking part, reports the Stockport Express.
Noise Festival chief executive Denise Proctor said that the project could really help young people to kickstart a career in a creative role.
"Many young people with incredible talent face barriers to entry in the creative industries. [Noise Festival] nurtures talent [for] the most creative companies trying to find the best new creatives and the Chancellor's support shows this need is recognised at the highest level," she said.
Former Stockport College pupil and artist Andrew Tunney, 26, got the chance to draw a portrait of the politician, which he said would go up in his office.
Earlier this month, Design Week magazine published the top 100 UK design companies, with Imagination taking the top spot for the second year running.
